Rabiul Awwal moon not sighted, Eid Miladun Nabi to be observed on Aug 26

The announcement was made after a meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee in Islamabad. A notification issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs said the first day of Rabiul Awwal 1448 AH would fall on Saturday, August 15.

Representatives of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Ministry of Science and Technology and other relevant institutions attended the meeting and provided technical assistance.

Muslims across the world observe the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), known as Mawlid al-Nabawi, on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday directed authorities to ensure foolproof security and uninterrupted civic services across the province during processions and religious gatherings marking Eid Miladun Nabi.

Chairing a meeting attended by religious scholars from various schools of thought and senior officials, the chief minister said the government was responsible for facilitating devotees in observing the occasion in a peaceful, secure and clean environment.

He directed the police, Rangers and district administrations to formulate and implement a coordinated security plan, maintain continuous surveillance and ensure adequate deployment along procession routes and at Milad gatherings.

Mr Shah also instructed K-Electric, Sui Southern Gas Company, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and other utility providers to ensure uninterrupted electricity, gas and water supplies around mosques, imambargahs and procession routes.
