Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial has indicated that the government is considering the gradual abolition of the super tax, saying efforts are underway to reduce the tax burden on businesses.
“The super tax rate has already been reduced by two percentage points, and work has now begun on its gradual elimination,” he said while addressing members of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Wednesday.
Langrial said the FBR was working to improve the tax system and facilitate the business community. He also announced plans to establish an FBR office at KATI to address tax-related concerns of industrialists operating in the Korangi Industrial Area.
He said the board would consult relevant stakeholders to resolve issues and improve procedures related to raw material imports. The scope of the FBR help desk, currently operating in Karachi, would also be extended to Sukkur.
According to a KATI press release, the FBR chairman further announced that meetings would be arranged to address border trade-related challenges faced by the leather industry.
He also discussed the possibility of introducing a model similar to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) for the pharmaceutical sector to improve the effectiveness of the Track and Trace System.
Urging industrialists and business representatives to cooperate with the FBR, Langrial said collective efforts were necessary to identify and eliminate tax evasion and make the taxation system more transparent and efficient.
Earlier, KATI President Sheikh Umer Rehan proposed the formation of a joint committee to ensure the timely resolution of tax-related issues faced by industrialists and strengthen coordination between the business community and the FBR.
