Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, has announced plans to give one share of SpaceX to every child in the United States next year, although he has not disclosed how the initiative would be implemented.
“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk wrote on X, adding that the move would be “the first of many.”
According to 2024 data from the US Census Bureau, approximately 73 million children under the age of 18 live in the United States. Musk owns around 38 per cent of SpaceX, according to Forbes.
The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump pledged last month to provide $5,000 to every American adult if Republicans retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.
SpaceX made history in June by launching the largest initial public offering (IPO) ever, raising $85.7 billion.
The company also achieved a major milestone in September when its Starship megarocket reached orbit for the first time. The rocket is a central component of Musk’s long-term ambitions to send humans to Mars.
However, Musk has yet to share further details about the proposed share distribution, including how eligible children would be identified and how the shares would be transferred.
