Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry on Wednesday held PTI leadership responsible for the shooting incident in Rawalpindi, saying the party could not distance itself from the actions of an alleged supporter.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Chaudhry said the party had repeatedly been urged to avoid what he described as “politics of hatred and anarchy”.
His remarks came a day after law enforcement officials shot dead a man on Rawalpindi’s Mall Road for allegedly opening fire at security personnel. State media identified the suspect as a resident of Khyber district and an “active PTI member”.
Chaudhry said the incident reflected the consequences of exposing young people to what he called “hatred and anarchy”. He argued that PTI leaders could not “absolve themselves of responsibility” by denying any association with the alleged attacker.
The PTI has rejected any link to the incident, saying it had nothing to do with terrorism and accusing authorities of attempting to associate the party with the episode.
