Spotify will begin introducing “AI Persona” labels on selected artist profiles from mid-September, aiming to give listeners greater clarity about whether the artists they encounter are real people or AI-generated personas.
The streaming platform said the move followed concerns over profiles that appear to represent human artists but are instead created using artificial intelligence.
The new badges will appear on artist profile banners and About sections, as well as in search results and track listings across playlists.
Starting Tuesday, artists will be able to voluntarily identify their profiles as AI Personas through Spotify for Artists. The company will also review profiles that appear to use photorealistic AI-generated identities.
Artists flagged during the review will be notified and given the option to disclose their AI status or appeal Spotify’s decision.
Spotify said AI Personas will not be included in editorial or algorithmic recommendations by default, unless users already follow them. Listeners will also be able to distinguish between profiles that self-disclose as AI Personas and those identified by Spotify.
The company clarified that the badge will indicate an artist’s public identity rather than how their music was created.
