The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of possible flooding in Leh Nullah as heavy rainfall continues in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with authorities directed to remain alert and prepare for possible evacuations from low-lying areas.
The Met Office said further heavy rain over the next few hours could cause water to accumulate in low-lying areas and increase water levels in local drains, particularly Leh Nullah.
A flood alert was issued after water levels at Kattarian and Gawalmandi crossed designated thresholds. According to the PMD, the water level at Kattarian reached 21 feet and at Gawalmandi 16 feet at 6:30am before fluctuating. By 11:30am, the levels stood at 16 feet and 19 feet, respectively.
The department directed relevant authorities to make arrangements for the possible evacuation of residents from vulnerable areas and urged all stakeholders to closely monitor the situation and take precautionary measures if conditions worsen.
