The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed on a negative note on the last trading day of August, although the benchmark index gained 0.5 per cent over the month.
The KSE-100 Index fell 720 points on the final trading day of August, closing at 176,975 points. However, the index gained 881 points over the course of the month.
Market analysts said uncertainty surrounding the Iran-US war contributed to significant volatility in the index, which moved by more than 6,250 points during August.
During the first 10 days of the month, the index climbed to a record high of 182,347 points on hopes of a ceasefire. However, as the ceasefire failed to materialise, the index remained on a downward trajectory during the remaining two-thirds of the month.
Trading activity during August saw 15 billion shares change hands in deals worth Rs708 billion.
The market capitalisation increased by Rs74 billion during the month to reach Rs19.83 trillion.
