Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has invited Huawei to invest in the Nawaz Sharif IT City as part of efforts to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital technology.
According to an official statement, the two sides agreed to train 1,000 young people as Huawei master trainers, while 300 women trainers would also receive specialised AI training.
The meeting also discussed a proposal to establish an artificial intelligence delivery unit in Punjab and plans to set up six data centres, including a sovereign data centre at the Nawaz Sharif IT City.
The participants agreed to appoint a focal person to strengthen coordination between Huawei and the federal government. Potential collaboration in smart cities, command centres, healthcare, education, agriculture and manufacturing was also reviewed.
Maryam said promoting AI was among the Punjab government’s key priorities, noting that the province was emerging as one of the most active regions in Pakistan and South Asia in technology adoption.
She said talent development and wider access to technology were central to Punjab’s digital strategy, with plans to develop cloud computing, digital infrastructure and locally developed AI models.
Meanwhile, the chief minister expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and damage caused by heavy rains and flooding in Nepal.
She expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal, saying the people of Punjab stood with them during the difficult period. She also prayed for the recovery of those injured and the early rehabilitation of affected families.
Maryam said the Punjab government was ready to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal.
