Singapore Foreign Minister to Visit Pakistan on October 30 for Official Talks

Singapore’s Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will visit Pakistan on October 30 for official talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, as the two countries mark the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO), the visit comes ahead of Singapore assuming the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2027.

During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will hold bilateral discussions with Dr Balakrishnan on a wide range of issues concerning Pakistan-Singapore relations. The two sides will also exchange views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.

The visit will also include the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on disaster management cooperation between Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Singapore’s Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

Dr Balakrishnan is also scheduled to meet Pakistan’s senior leadership during his stay, the Foreign Office said.

Pakistan and Singapore maintain friendly relations based on mutual respect and longstanding cooperation. The visit reflects the two countries’ shared intention to strengthen and broaden their partnership across various areas of mutual interest.

Dar last held discussions with his Singaporean counterpart in May, when he sought Singapore’s assistance in facilitating the welfare and repatriation of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian nationals aboard vessels seized by the United States.
