Hina Javed was found dead in the bathroom of her apartment at Askari Apartments in Rawalpindi on Thursday evening, with police saying her body showed signs of torture. A wire was reportedly found around her neck and tied to the shower rod.
Police detained Hina’s husband and a domestic servant in connection with the case and produced them before a duty magistrate on Sunday, seeking physical remand for further investigation. The court granted police a three-day remand and directed them to submit a progress report upon its completion.
A case was registered on August 20 at Civil Lines police station under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Hina’s brother, Fahid Javed, alleged that his sister was murdered by her husband, father-in-law and domestic servant.
According to the FIR, Fahid received a call from Hina’s father-in-law at around 6:53pm on Thursday informing him of an emergency. He reached the apartment with family members around 7:23pm and found Hina’s body in the bathroom.
The complainant alleged that Hina had faced severe torture and mistreatment by her husband and may have been given a poisonous substance before her death. He said she had married the suspect in November 2025.
An initial postmortem found a strangulation mark around Hina’s neck, an injury below her right lip and bleeding. Police said the exact cause of death would be established after the Punjab Forensic Science Agency submits its report.
Police are also investigating the role of Hina’s father-in-law, who has been questioned and directed not to leave the city. A seven-member investigation team, headed by Rawalpindi SSP Investigation Saifullah, has been formed to probe the case.
Police have also taken the mobile phones of Hina and three family members into custody as part of the investigation.
