Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered the removal of the entire staff of the Gujranwala Regional Passport Office (RPO) after finding the office largely deserted during a surprise visit, official sources said.
According to the sources, the minister arrived at the RPO unexpectedly before the official closing time and found only one staff member present. The office was reportedly being cleaned at the time of his visit.
The sources said Mr Naqvi expressed displeasure after discovering that the remaining staff were absent and members of the public had been prevented from entering the premises.
The only official present was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the absence of the other employees when questioned by the minister.
Following the inspection, Mr Naqvi directed the removal of the entire Gujranwala RPO staff. The orders were implemented immediately, the sources said.
