The search for missing people is continuing after devastating floods struck Nepal and China’s autonomous region of Tibet, with the overall death toll reaching at least 810. Authorities said 48 British nationals are missing in Nepal and Tibet.
According to Chinese authorities, 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries, including 15 British citizens, are missing on the Chinese side. Nepal has separately reported 33 British nationals missing.
Flash floods triggered by the collapse of a major glacier in the Himalayas on Wednesday severely affected border areas of Nepal and China.
More than 3,000 people remain missing, according to officials. Nepal Police said 794 deaths had been confirmed in the country, while more than 2,742 people were injured.
Chinese authorities said at least 16 people had died on the Chinese side of the border. Rescue operations have been hampered by bad weather and the risk of landslides.
China has deployed more than 2,100 rescue workers to assist with relief operations, while emergency supplies are also being delivered to affected areas by air.
The United Kingdom has announced £5 million in aid for Nepal and dispatched an emergency response team to Kathmandu.
The governments of the United States, Australia and several other countries have also announced humanitarian assistance for Nepal.
The UK Foreign Office said it was in constant contact with authorities to support British nationals affected by the flooding along the Nepal-China border and their families.
