‘Ainak Wala Jin’ Creator Hafeez Tahir Criticises PTV Over AI-Generated Film Based on Beloved Show

Veteran television producer, director and writer Hafeez Tahir has criticised Pakistan Television (PTV) over an AI-generated film based on his popular series Ainak Wala Jin, alleging that the project was produced without his permission.

The AI-generated film, promoted on IMDb as Asia’s first AI-generated feature-length movie, was released in cinemas on July 24. Tahir expressed his displeasure in a video posted on Instagram, accusing the film’s writer and director, Farhan Khan, of using his original concept without seeking approval.

Tahir described the move as “daylight robbery”, saying Ainak Wala Jin, which aired on PTV from 1993 to 1996, was his original concept and creation. He said he wrote, named and directed the series before handing it to PTV, where it continued to generate significant revenue.

According to Tahir, neither Khan nor PTV approached him for permission or involvement in the new production. He criticised the film’s use of AI, saying it had altered the appearance and voices of key characters, including Nastoor Jin and Hamoon Jadoogar.

He also objected to the AI-generated music used in the film, arguing that the technology had damaged the original concept and characters of the iconic series.

Tahir concluded by questioning whether he should remain silent or pursue legal action over the production.
