CM Maryam orders designated motorcycle lanes across Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to establish designated lanes for motorcycles as part of measures to improve traffic management in Lahore.

Chairing a meeting on traffic management, the chief minister expressed concern over violations of traffic laws by Suthra Punjab vehicles and ordered authorities to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.

She also expressed grief over the death of a minor girl who was run over by a Suthra Punjab vehicle and called for measures to prevent similar incidents.

Maryam directed authorities to strictly enforce the use of zebra crossings by pedestrians and approved the introduction of camera-based digital monitoring to improve compliance. A proposal to install alert buttons for pedestrians crossing roads was also reviewed.

She ordered the launch of a pilot project on The Mall to enforce zebra-crossing rules and directed officials to develop Ferozepur Road as a model road for Lahore.

The chief minister also instructed authorities to ensure that cargo tractor-trolleys operate with proper covers, with particular emphasis on enforcing the requirement for Suthra Punjab tractor-trolleys.

She directed the authorities to take immediate steps to ease traffic congestion at Shahdara and Thokar Niaz Baig, stressing that traffic flow at Lahore’s entry and exit points should remain unobstructed.

Maryam also ordered the installation of traffic signals at Pine Avenue and Jati Umra Chowk as part of broader measures to improve traffic management in the city.
