Security forces and police killed eight terrorists as an overnight clearance operation at Kohat Police Lines concluded after around 21 hours.
The operation began after terrorists entered the Special Branch building following a suicide attack near a mosque inside the Police Lines compound.
Police, Counter Terrorism Department teams, Elite Force commandos and security personnel took part in the clearance operation and secured key areas of the affected buildings.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior security officials, with teams carrying out searches and clearance activities inside the compound. Authorities said the operation successfully neutralised the attackers and secured the area.
A senior counterterrorism official was injured in a grenade attack during the operation. Despite sustaining a hand injury, the official returned to the frontline after receiving first aid and continued supervising the clearance operation.
At least 21 people, including 15 police personnel, were killed and more than 100 others injured in Friday’s attack at the Old Police Lines in Kohat.
The attack began when an explosives-laden vehicle detonated near a mosque, followed by an assault on the Police Lines compound and police facilities.
Several police and medical personnel were among those killed in the attack.
A militant group claimed responsibility for the assault.
Funeral prayers for the 15 police personnel killed in the attack were held in Kohat before their bodies were transported to their respective native districts, including Kohat, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Mardan.
Authorities have ordered a detailed investigation into the attack and directed officials to ensure immediate medical treatment for those injured.
The incident has renewed concerns over the security situation in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the threat posed by militant attacks against police and security installations.
A similar attack occurred in Kohat in 2010, when a remote-controlled bomb exploded inside a police colony located near the Police Lines. The blast, which took place during Ramadan at Iftar time, killed 20 people and injured more than 90 others.
