One Killed as Shop Roof Collapses on Karachi’s Manghopir Road, Rescue Officials Say

At least one person has been killed and three others rescued after the roof of a shop collapsed during construction work on Karachi’s Manghopir Road, rescue officials said.

Rescue 1122 Chief Operating Officer Dr Abid Shaikh stated that the incident occurred while construction work was underway at the shop.

He said three people had been pulled out of the rubble and shifted to a hospital, while fears remained that more individuals could be trapped beneath the debris.

According to Edhi officials, the deceased was a 43-year-old man whose body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Rescue and search operations were continuing to locate and recover any remaining victims. Edhi ambulances and volunteers were also present at the site to assist in the emergency response.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed the relevant authorities to accelerate rescue operations and ensure the removal of debris. He also instructed officials to provide the best possible medical treatment to those injured.

The chief minister further sought a detailed report from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to determine the cause of the collapse and establish whether negligence contributed to the incident.

In a separate incident on October 27, one person was killed and seven others injured after the roof of an under-construction building collapsed near Multan’s Northern Bypass.

Earlier, on October 15, at least 31 people, including 30 students and a female teacher, lost their lives when a school roof collapsed in Peshawar’s Afridi Abad area.

Similarly, three people were killed on October 9 after a wall at a local Union Council office collapsed in Karachi’s Malir area.
