PIA Engages HSY to Design New Uniforms for Cabin Crew

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has selected renowned fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, popularly known as HSY, to design its new cabin crew uniforms following a competitive showcase featuring collections by leading Pakistani fashion designers.

The airline unveiled the new uniforms on Thursday, announcing that they will officially come into use from October 31. The rollout is scheduled to begin with the inaugural London-to-Islamabad flight of PIA’s newly acquired Boeing Dreamliner.

According to the airline, the new uniforms have been designed to ensure durability on long-haul flights and allow comfortable movement. The collection features breathable fabrics and structured tailoring to meet the practical requirements of cabin crew members.

HSY’s designs were selected from collections presented by several prominent designers and fashion houses, including Maheen Khan, Deepak and Fahad, Generation, Ismail Farid, Munib Nawaz, Deepak Perwani, Faraz Manan, Amir Adnan and Nomi Ansari. Ansari’s designs had been used by the airline for the past 12 years.

The collections were evaluated by a panel comprising Khaadi founder and CEO Shamoon Sultan, fashion designer Nilofer Shahid, beauty and style expert Nabila, Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design Vice-Chancellor Hina Tayyaba Khalil, and Naseem Tehrani, a PIA aviation veteran with 33 years of experience.

HSY’s appointment continues PIA’s long-standing association with prominent fashion designers. In 1966, French designer Pierre Cardin created the airline’s iconic A-line tunic and hood, while British royal couturier Sir Hardy Amies contributed to its uniform designs during the 1970s.

Commenting on the project, Yasin said designing uniforms for Pakistan’s national airline was an opportunity to reflect national pride and the country’s tradition of hospitality.

He added that the designs aimed to ensure cabin crew members felt confident and comfortable while presenting a modern interpretation of Pakistan’s cultural heritage to travellers around the world.
