Police said the petrol pump cashier and a security guard were travelling to a nearby private bank to deposit the cash when six armed robbers intercepted their vehicle. The suspects threatened them at gunpoint and fled with Rs6 million.
According to police, the security guard opened fire as the robbers made their escape. However, a bullet struck a passer-by, later identified as 48-year-old Mohammed Afzal.
The suspects escaped from the scene, leaving behind a motorcycle and a pistol. Investigators said the motorcycle had no registration number plate.
Police added that they had gathered important leads regarding the suspects and were making concerted efforts to track them down and bring them to justice.
