A high-level Brazilian military delegation, led by Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, met Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation and opportunities to expand bilateral defence and security cooperation.

Both military leaders expressed satisfaction with the longstanding cordial relations between Pakistan and Brazil and agreed to further strengthen military-to-military collaboration, ISPR said.

Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing defence ties with Brazil, while Admiral Freire praised the professionalism and operational preparedness of Pakistan’s armed forces. He also acknowledged their contributions to regional peace and stability.

The visit underscored the shared commitment of Pakistan and Brazil to deepening defence cooperation and strengthening bilateral military relations, according to the statement.

Upon his arrival at GHQ, the visiting admiral was accorded a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent representing Pakistan’s three armed services.

Pakistan and Brazil have also explored ways to expand economic engagement. In 2018, the two countries discussed measures to increase bilateral trade and establish a joint chamber of commerce and industry to facilitate business cooperation between companies, entrepreneurs and investors.
