The Sindh government is expanding its digital attendance system to government schools across the province, with the aim of improving monitoring of student attendance and maintaining centralised academic records. Introduced on the directives of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the system will digitally track students’ attendance, academic performance, examination results and school transfers. According to a press release issued on Thursday, 3,481 government schools had been registered on the platform by Aug 27. The government has set a target of bringing all government schools in Sindh under the system by April 2027. Mr Shah said a digital educational profile would be created for every student, covering their complete academic history, including attendance, performance, examination results and transfers between schools. The Sindh cabinet approved the SAMRS Policy 2026 in March. The system is designed to monitor attendance, identify prolonged absenteeism and flag students at risk of dropping out. It includes facilities for student registration, attendance monitoring of students and staff, grade promotion and issuance of unique Student IDs. QR codes will also be issued to students to facilitate digital management of their educational records. The platform will generate daily, monthly and annual attendance reports and facilitate the issuance of certificates. Parents will also receive SMS, email and WhatsApp alerts when students remain absent for extended periods. To address connectivity issues in remote areas, the system has been equipped with offline functionality. Geofenced attendance and offline facial recognition features have also been introduced to record student attendance. The education department said the initiative was intended to go beyond attendance tracking by enabling timely intervention in cases of absenteeism, identifying students vulnerable to dropping out and maintaining comprehensive educational records through a centralised digital system.
