An FIR has been registered at the City Police Station in Mandi Bahauddin against unidentified suspects over the killing of an Ahmadi community member. Provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) have also been included in the case.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred at around 6:42pm on Wednesday near Eidgah Road, approximately five furlongs northeast of the City police station.
The victim’s son, who lodged the complaint, told police that he was at a hospital attending to his mother-in-law when he received a call from an employee at his workshop informing him that his father had been shot.
The complainant rushed to the scene and found his father lying beside his motorcycle. The victim had died by the time his son arrived, according to the FIR.
The report stated that the victim routinely travelled by motorcycle from his workshop to a place of worship in the city to offer prayers.
The complainant told police that neither his father nor any other family member had an enmity with anyone. He alleged that the killing appeared to be a targeted attack aimed at creating fear and panic among members of the minority community.
The case was registered under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
