The Nobel Sustainability Trust (NST), an independent Swiss foundation established by members of the Nobel family, has invited Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to attend its 2026 Sustainability Summit and Awards Ceremony in Hong Kong on Nov 30.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong and will bring together government officials, scientists, academics, business leaders and sustainability experts from around the world.
In its invitation, the NST praised Punjab’s initiatives in climate resilience, environmental protection, forestry, wildlife conservation and air-quality management, particularly the province’s growing use of technology and data in environmental governance.
Since Ms Nawaz assumed office in 2024, Punjab has expanded digital monitoring and enforcement systems to tackle air pollution and smog. These systems are being used to identify major sources of emissions, assess environmental risks and support timely government action.
The technology-based approach has also improved coordination among government departments and helped strengthen public awareness about environmental issues.
With air pollution and smog remaining major challenges across the region, the provincial government has focused on monitoring, data analysis and digital systems to make air-quality management more transparent, responsive and evidence-based.
The NST chairman, in his communication to the chief minister, highlighted Punjab’s shift towards data-driven and technology-enabled governance as a potential model for environmental reforms.
The invitation will also provide Punjab an opportunity to present its experience in using technology and innovation to strengthen climate resilience, improve air quality, combat smog, restore forests, protect wildlife and modernise environmental governance.
The summit will facilitate discussions on climate action, conservation, biodiversity, air-quality management, technological innovation and sustainable development, while promoting the exchange of experiences and practical solutions to environmental challenges.
