Two brothers have accused police officials of failing to take effective action in a robbery case involving stolen goods worth more than Rs10 million in Peshawar, urging the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to intervene and ensure the arrest of the alleged suspects.
Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Qasim Subhan and Fazal Subhan, residents of Khushal Town in the Jharra area on the outskirts of the provincial capital, called for the recovery of their stolen property and a transparent investigation.
Fazal Subhan alleged that around 13 armed men raided their shop at approximately 2pm on Friday and held him and his two sons at gunpoint. He claimed the suspects loaded spare parts valued at over Rs10 million into a wagon before fleeing the scene.
According to the complainant, the armed men also took Rs600,000 in cash and two mobile phones belonging to his son, Hamza.
Fazal identified Israr Ahmed, a resident of Gul Dara, Kacha Kachals, and Bakht Mohammad, from Doranpur, Peshawar, as the alleged ringleaders.
He claimed that he contacted Police Emergency 15 and the Khan Raziq Shaheed police station following the incident, but officers arrived after a significant delay. He alleged that police inspected the shop at around 8pm, several hours after the reported robbery.
The complainant further said the family had provided investigators with CCTV footage and the names of the alleged suspects, but no arrests had been made. He also alleged that Habib, whom they had identified as a suspect, was not named in the first information report (FIR).
Fazal accused DSP Shahenshah Khan of interfering with the investigation and attempting to shield the suspects. These allegations could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, Qasim Subhan alleged that the complainants were repeatedly summoned to the police station and made to sit with individuals who had no connection to the robbery case. He further claimed they were asked to place their thumb impressions on documents and were filmed in connection with the release of certain individuals whom he said were unrelated to the incident.
The brothers appealed to the CCPO to ensure that all suspects were dealt with in accordance with the available evidence, that the investigation was conducted fairly, and that those found responsible were brought to justice.
