The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has reduced the daily working hours of government schools across the province by one hour.
According to a circular issued by the department on Wednesday, the school timings prescribed under an earlier notification would remain in effect but be reduced by one hour during the five-day school week.
“All other terms, conditions and directions contained in the aforesaid circular shall remain unchanged and continue to be applicable,” the notification stated.
The department directed heads of educational institutions and relevant field officers to ensure strict implementation of the revised timings.
The move follows a series of changes to the weekly schedule of educational institutions in Sindh.
In late July, the provincial government had announced a six-day working week for all public and private educational institutions under its administrative control. However, the following day, the education department clarified that private schools could determine their weekly teaching and working days according to their own schedules.
On August 5, the government restored the five-day working week for schools and colleges, reversing its earlier decision.
Earlier this year, schools across Sindh observed a spring vacation from March 16 to 31, while colleges and universities shifted to online classes as part of austerity and fuel conservation measures introduced amid the economic impact of the US-Israeli war on Iran.
As part of the austerity measures, the provincial government had designated Saturday and Sunday as weekly holidays following the resumption of physical classes on April 1.
