Two Pakistan Navy personnel were martyred while performing maritime patrol duties to ensure security at sea, the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) said.
According to a statement issued on X, Shoaibur Rehman (PMA-IV) and Ghufran Nasar (PMT-II) embraced martyrdom while carrying out patrol duties.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the two sailors and paid tribute to their service, the statement said.
Senior Pakistan Navy officials attended the funerals of the martyred personnel and met with their families, it added.
Earlier this year, the Pakistan Navy launched Operation Muhafizul Bahr to counter what it described as “multidimensional threats” to national shipping and maritime trade.
The operation was launched amid an evolving regional maritime security situation and concerns over potential disruptions to critical sea lanes.
According to the Navy, around 90 per cent of Pakistan’s trade is conducted by sea, making the protection of vital maritime routes essential for maintaining the country’s trade and economic activity.
Operation Muhafizul Bahr aims to ensure that Pakistan’s key sea routes remain safe, secure and uninterrupted.
